Tech East Alumni Compete at Tech Nation Finals
Tech East 100 alumni, Safepoint, will compete at Tech Nation’s prestigious East of England regional finals on Monday 13th May.
Safepoint will showcase their “life-saving innovations” in front of expert judges, in collaboration with Cambridge Tech Week.
Safepoint provide innovative solutions for keeping people safe and have become a major player in the health and safety tech space since being highlighted by Tech East in 2020.
About Tech Nation Rising Stars
Tech Nation is one of the UK’s most prestigious tech organisations. Its alumni account for 1/5th of all tech funding in the last decade, and 1/3 of all “unicorns” (a privately owned business valued at over $1 Billion).
Rising Stars is Tech Nation’s flagship startup competition. Over the last six years, it has highlighted the UK’s most innovative and successful tech startups –including Bumble, Twilio and Wish.
The event shines a spotlight on the best startups across six regions of the UK –South West and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, The North, The Midlands, London, and the East of England.
East of England Finals
Despite hundreds of applications being sent this year (the busiest ever, according to Tech Nation), only ten companies per region have advanced to the regional finals.
The ten finalists –comprising innovative companies from all over the East of England– will be competing for the chance to win up to £170,000 in prizes. The winner will also go on to present at London Tech Week – the UK’s globally recognised showcase of innovative tech.
Safepoint’s Life-Saving Innovations
When Tech East highlighted Safepoint as “ones to watch” back in 2020, Safepoint’s offering was relatively modest –a smart, easy-to-use app that helped at-risk, frontline and lone workers stay connected and protected when they’re out and about. The idea was simple, but the team’s dedication to excellence made it stand out in their sector.
Since then, the team have massively expanded their offerings. They now provide lightweight “wearable panic alarms”, “all-in-one” SIM-enabled devices that offer hands-free emergency communication, and a 24/7 monitoring service.
The monitoring service is particularly impressive. Safepoint have an exclusive partnership with security giants ADT who monitor Safepoint’s users day and night. If an alarm is triggered, automatically or manually, Safepoint’s ADT agents will respond in seconds. The team can provide a faster and more informed response for genuine emergencies by working directly with the emergency services’ priority line.
If this wasn’t enough, Safepoint will also showcase their new “personal safety” brand, Callie, at the Rising Stars event. Launched last year, Callie’s free personal safety app helps thousands of regular people feel safer and more confident when they’re out and about and has made waves across social media. Users can even upgrade to a premium ADT-monitored package, just like Safepoint users.
And finally, Safepoint will use the East of England event to showcase their latest innovation, the “Callie Bracelet”. The Callie Bracelet is an incredibly smart panic alarm, disguised as a beautiful piece of jewellery. It offers users a fashionable and lightweight way to call for help in an emergency and is being offered as an alternative to “clunky” and “unattractive” personal alarms.
Speaking of their rapid ascent, Safepoint CEO Callum Coombes told us “The last few years have been incredibly exciting for us. As well as signing on major brands such as the NHS, Aldi, Mitsubishi and Brewdog, we’ve also had an incredible reaction from the community. We have been invited on BBC Radio, featured in The Telegraph and we’ve just won a “Health and Safety Tech Innovation” award.”
The Ten Rising Stars East of England Finalists
The ten companies showcasing at the East of England Rising Stars this year are Acume, Cloud Contracts 365, Developing Experts, Neuro XR, Novai, Other Skies, Safepoint, Straw Innovations, Tech Educators, and Tech1M.
The solutions come from all over the East of England and offer everything from contract management to alternative energies and AI Biotech. As with every region, the solutions were hand-picked by an expert panel and represent the best and brightest startups in the area.
Speaking about the range of solutions showcasing on Monday, Safepoint CEO Callum (and Cambridge Norwich Tech Corridor ambassador) noted, “We’re so proud to be at Rising Stars with such an amazing array of innovators. The East of England has consistently shown itself to be a hotbed of new and exciting technologies, and we’re excited to see that properly celebrated.”
