Did you know that anyone can nominate someone for an honour?

The Honours system recognises and celebrates outstanding achievements. It includes various orders, decorations, and medals, each with its own criteria and significance. Nominations for honours can be made by anyone, and the process is designed to be inclusive and accessible. The honours are announced twice a year, in the New Year and on the King’s official birthday.

At the Department for Science, Innovation & Technology (DSIT), we want to recognise individuals who are delivering outstanding achievements across all fields of science and technology. They will usually have made life better for other people or be outstanding at what they do.

How do I nominate someone?

You can nominate someone by completing this Nomination Form.

Please do reach out to the DSIT Honours Team if you are interested in submitting a nomination and want to discuss further. We can help with reviewing nominations and suggesting changes and improvements to give your nomination the best possible chance of success. You can contact us at partnerships@dsit.gov.uk.

A strong nomination is essential for success and honours committees judge candidates based on the information provided in the nomination. To write a good citation, include enough information to make a compelling case. Your citation should tell the story of the candidate’s

achievements, providing clear evidence of their impact and how they have improved things for others. Describe the difference they have made, how things were before and after their contribution, and what sets them apart from others. Highlight their respect among peers, role

model status, and sustained achievements, especially in challenging circumstances. Use superlatives carefully, supporting any claims with solid evidence.

Encouraging people to nominate deserving individuals is crucial for ensuring that the honours system continues to recognise and celebrate outstanding contributions. If you know someone who has made a significant impact in their community or field, consider nominating them for an honour. By nominating someone, you can help shine a light on their achievements and inspire others to follow in their footsteps.
