Apprenticeship Stories: Arma Karma
Arma Karma was one of the first businesses to enter the Innovation Centre in Sept 2019. As two former graduates of the University of Essex, both founders Ben Smyth and Chris Frogner are keen on developing local talent and they are practicing what they preach with their new team members via the Apprenticeship scheme.
Earlier this year ACL was invited to Arma Karma, an Insurtech based in here at the Innovation Centre in Colchester. They recently recruited Gray, who is completing their Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship.
“It’s really nice to see the suggestions that I make being implemented and seeing improvements based on that. I didn’t think that I would be the sort of person interested in insurance, but I can’t stop talking about it!”
We know that as graduates themselves both Ben and Chris are very pro younger local talent and helping them to progress in business is one of their core values.
Hear from Arma Karma’s Business Administrator Gray Love on how their apprenticeship is going with Arma Karma in this slick video from ACL Essex.

Gray’s manager Chris couldn’t be happier with the progress that Gray has already made in their role.
“When you’re looking to hire someone, you spend some time training and teaching people, but Gray’s come in and hit the ground running – they’ve been absolutely fantastic so far”
Gray’s been a brilliant addition to the Arma team, but we’ll let Chris Frogner explain more in his interview which you can also watch in the link below!

We wish Gray every success in the future!
Our view is apprenticeships like this are a win-win for both parties involved and a way of keeping talented people in the local area. The experience that can be gained by both is invaluable and we are always happy to help facilitate any introductions like this in the Essex area.
The environment and location do play a vital part in allowing people to develop and being close allows innovation to flow much smoother.
If you want to be part of our exciting community please contact us where we can set up a tour of the centre and its facilities. Please contact us at info@innovationcentre-kg.co.uk or 01206 405 500 for Coworking, Hotdesking and Private Office space to rent.
