Foster+Partners wins design competition to unlock Ipswich’s tech hub

Internationally renown architecture practice, Foster+Partners has won a competition run by Suffolk County Council and the Royal Institute of British Archtects (RIBA) to design three new bridges over Ipswich docks as the upper orwell crossing.

The new bridges will open up the port’s island site – opposite the University of Suffolk – for development as a new technology hub.

Foster+Partners has already contributed the landmark Willis Building (opened in 1975) to the town – which is one of the earliest buildings designed by Lord Norman Foster.  In 1991 it became the youngest building to be given Grade I listed status in Britain.
